Dual-motor cinema sofa: backrest and footrest each with their own motor
Dual motor means two motors per seat: one for the backrest, one for the footrest. On a dual-motor cinema sofa you set both separately and steplessly, per person, without the rest of the sofa moving along.
For a sofa that several people sit on at once, that is what makes the difference: everyone picks their own viewing position and nobody gets moved along. That is why dual motor is the standard across our cinema sofas, in Italian full-grain leather, fabric or velvet from more than 50 colours.

What dual motor means in practice once you sit down
On a dual-motor cinema sofa you control two things separately: the angle of your back and the height of your legs. Feet up with a straight back for reading, half reclined for a series, almost flat for a long film; you stop steplessly at any point in between. The controls sit in the armrest, and on higher-tier models a memory position stores your favourite setting.
Just as important is what does not happen: each seat has its own motors, so a dual-motor sofa only moves where someone presses the button. The person next to you notices nothing of your adjustment. That sounds like a detail, until you watch a film with three or four people and everyone wants a different position.
Dual motor next to quad motor and next to manual recline
A single-motor sofa moves the backrest and footrest in one fixed motion: cheaper, but you cannot choose an in-between position. Dual motor uncouples the two. A quad-motor sofa goes a step further on our top-tier models and adds an electrically adjustable headrest and lumbar support, so your neck and lower back get a position of their own as well.
We do not sell a manual recliner sofa in this line: all cinema sofas recline electrically, because a lever or push mechanism sits badly with a sofa you want to lie still in for two hours in the evening. If you want the same recline comfort in a separate chair, look at the dual-motor cinema chair; for a more quietly styled living room sofa with the same motors there is the electric recliner sofa.
Motors, movement and warranty: what to expect over ten years
The motors in our sofas are certified for 25,000 to 50,000 recline cycles; with daily use that carries you through decades. They are generously dimensioned for the load, so the electric recline moves evenly, without jerking or snatching. You get 2 years of warranty on the motors and electronics, 10 years on the hardwood frame, and parts remain available after the warranty period too.
If you compare a motor warranty elsewhere, look past a single number: a long frame warranty says nothing about the lifespan of the electric recline, and that is precisely the part doing daily work. So always ask exactly what the warranty covers and for how long, for the frame and for the motors.

Dual-Motor Cinema Sofas - Frequently Asked Questions
Two per adjustable seat: one motor for the backrest and one for the footrest. A 3-seater on which all three seats recline therefore has six motors, a 4-seater eight. Each seat works fully independently, with its own controls in the armrest. When you put your configuration together, note that not every layout is powered in every position: choose a centre console with cup holders, for instance, and it replaces a seat and with it a motor set. Which positions recline electrically is listed per configuration on the product page. Top-tier models with quad motor have four motors per seat, because the headrest and lumbar support move electrically there as well. Weigh up how your household actually sits: a console with cup holders is pleasant for film nights, an extra powered seat wins for a larger family. Nothing dramatic: the sofa simply stays in whatever position it was in at that moment. The motors hold their position without power, so an extended footrest does not suddenly sink and nothing gets knocked out of order. What you should know: without power you cannot change the position. The recline works electrically only, there is no manual lever. As soon as the power returns, you operate the sofa as always. A practical tip for situations you plan yourself: bring the sofa upright before you pull the plug, for a move, a thorough clean behind the sofa or work in the meter cupboard, for example. That way it stands compact and you can get around it easily. If the sofa is reclined during an unexpected power cut, you simply wait it out; no damage comes of it.
Our motors are certified for 25,000 to 50,000 recline cycles. To make that concrete: fully adjust the sofa four times every day and after ten years you are at just over 14,000 cycles, still well within the lower bound of the certification. In practice the motor is therefore rarely the part that decides the end of the sofa's life. The warranty works as the hard lower limit: 2 years on motors and electronics, 10 years on the hardwood frame and construction. If anything goes wrong within that period, we resolve it. Parts also remain available after the warranty period, so a motor can be replaced without writing the sofa off. If you want to extend the lifespan yourself, the advice is simple: let the mechanism finish its movement and do not hang on a half-extended footrest.
Usually one. The sections of the sofa are linked through internally, so a complete 3- or 4-seater with all its motors runs from one socket; the USB ports in the armrests run along the same wiring. You do not need a separate circuit or an electrician for a cinema sofa, it is simply a plug in a socket. What you do want to think about is where that socket sits. If the sofa stands against the wall, an existing point behind the sofa is enough. If it will stand free in the room, plan a floor socket, and do that before the floor finish goes in; otherwise a loose cable across the floor stays visible for years.
