The Conversion Mechanism
The conversion mechanism on a Delux Deco sofa bed works differently from the traditional pull-out spring system. The seat and backrest lower and extend to create a flat sleeping surface. The transition is smooth and does not require lifting heavy metal frames or threading sheets around a folded mechanism.
When in sofa mode, the conversion system is invisible. The seat sits and behaves exactly as a standard reclining sofa — full electric recline, correct seat depth, proper lumbar support. There is no visible fold-line or compromise in the seating surface to accommodate the conversion.
When converted to a bed, the sleeping surface extends to a full sleeping length of approximately 190 to 200 cm depending on configuration. The sleeping width matches the sofa width — a 2-seat configuration provides approximately 130 to 140 cm of sleeping width, adequate for a single adult or comfortably accommodating two adults for occasional use.
Comfort: Sitting and Sleeping
As a sofa: seat depth is 58 to 62 cm with full electric recline via dual-motor mechanism. Backrest and footrest adjust independently. The seat density and spring system are specified to the same standards as our non-converting recliner range. There is no compromise in sitting comfort to accommodate the sleep function.
As a sleeping surface: the mattress element is an integrated foam system, not a thin pad over metal bars. The foam is multi-density: a firmer base layer with a softer top layer that provides sleeping comfort without the sinking sensation of low-density foam. It is not the same as a dedicated mattress — that would be an unfair comparison — but it is a genuine sleeping surface rather than a makeshift one. For occasional use (guests two to four times a year) or regular secondary use (a regular overnight stay), the sofa bed performs appropriately.
The sleeping surface is at a comfortable height from the floor when extended — similar to a low bed, not floor level.

Italian full-grain leather is the standard and the most practical choice for a convertible sofa. Leather cleans easily, does not absorb moisture, and withstands the additional contact that comes from both sitting and sleeping use. Over 50 colours are available.
Performance fabric is available for those who prefer a softer feel. Choose a fabric rated for heavy daily use. Fabric is warmer to the touch than leather — an advantage for sleeping use — but less easy to clean and more susceptible to staining.
Velvet is available on selected configurations. For a sofa bed used primarily for seating, velvet is a strong visual choice in a dedicated dark room. For pieces that will regularly convert to sleeping use, leather or fabric is more practical.

Mattress and Sleeping Surface
The sleeping surface on a Delux Deco sofa bed uses a multi-layer foam system rather than a traditional spring mattress. The base layer is high-density polyurethane foam (35 kg/m³ or higher) that provides structural support and prevents bottoming out. The comfort layer is a softer foam or memory foam topping that conforms to body shape without excessive heat retention.
Unlike pocket-spring sofa bed mattresses that develop sag points over time, the all-foam construction maintains its shape and support characteristics across the full sleeping surface. The foam system is integrated into the sofa structure — it is not a separate mattress that needs to be stored elsewhere when the sofa bed is in sitting mode.
For those who use the sleeping function regularly (weekly or more), we recommend placing a thin mattress topper (5–8 cm) over the integrated surface for additional comfort. A breathable topper also makes it easier to change bedding between uses.
Maintenance and Care
The conversion mechanism requires no regular maintenance beyond keeping the tracks and pivot points free of debris. The electric motors are sealed units with an expected service life exceeding 10,000 cycles. If you convert the sofa bed twice per week, that equates to approximately 96 years of use before the mechanism requires service.
For leather upholstery, wipe the sleeping surface with a damp cloth after each use and apply leather conditioner every three to four months.
